DETROIT – A dogfighting ring in Detroit was shut down and authorities rescued more than 20 dogs Tuesday morning, according to reports.
The Michigan Humane Society (MHS), the Detroit Police Department and federal agents served a search warrant at a home in the city’s west side, Fox 2 Detroit reported.

MHS is an animal welfare group. They said 21 dogs and other paraphernalia used in dogfighting was found at the residence.
Although all of the animals were discovered alive, officials said they were in need of medical care.
“We’re seizing 21 dogs – all associated with dogfighting – dogfighting paraphernalia, which is anything to include up to slat mills, treadmills, break sticks, drugs – anything associated with conditioning dogs to fight,” said Andy Seltz of MHS.
Police arrested a man at the home in connection with the dogfighting operation. However, his identity was not disclosed, but police say he is facing felony charges, WDIV reported.
Officials from the Michigan Humane Society had to bring in extra vans to transport all the dogs.
Much of the investigation stems from tips from neighbors in the area, officials said.
The investigation is ongoing, according to authorities.
