Yellowstone, Wyoming – A Yellowstone National Park Ranger was directing traffic when a grizzly bear wanted in on the action. Tye bear charged at the ranger while he was outside of his vehicle and the quick thinking ranger fired what is presumed to be rubber projectiles towards the bear.
The footage was captured late Friday, the same day a grizzly bear mauled a hiker near Mammoth Hot Springs in the northern portion of the park. The ranger takes cover behind his vehicle as he shoots at the bear.
The bear ran back into the forest while the ranger ignited loud projectiles in an effort to discourage the bear from reemerging.
Photographer Deby Dixon told ‘For The Win Outdoors’ that the footage was captured Friday evening south of Roaring Mountain, north of the Norris Geyser Basin. She said that this bear had been following cars around most of the day and reportedly charged several cars.
It is a particularly dangerous time in the park as tourism his high and bears have just emerged out of hibernation.
