GOOSE CREEK, SC (WCSC) – A day after the shooting, cars rolled by on Iris Street like nothing happened.
But conversations amongst neighbors and a closer look at house number 111, tell a different story. Blood was smeared on the door. Glass was scattered in the home's entrance way and bullet holes were easy to find.
"This is the officer's blood," said Jonathan Chacon, as he pointed to the pavement near his front steps.
Chacon, 23, lives on 113 Iris Street, the home next door to where the shootout happened. He was in the living room, when he heard what sounded like fireworks. He then realized it was gun shots.
"I looked through this window and actually saw two officers across the street," Chacon explained. "I just saw them with handguns pointing towards the other house."
Across the street, Tressa Holton was in her backyard playing with her 3-year-old daughter, Brianna. "I ran in the bathroom with her, and then by that time I heard like 15 rounds go off," Holton said. "I didn't know what was going on. I was scared and was trying to keep her safe."
"There was a few cops hiding right here on these bushes and then there was two of them hiding towards the bushes over there in the house," Chacon said.
Chacon took his fiancé and daughter into the laundry room. "I was more scared for my fiancé and my daughte," he added. "I tried to protect them."
Then he went outside.
"I saw the two officers by my fence. One was injured. I saw him bleeding, so I asked one of the officers, ‘do you need anything?' and ended up bringing towels for him," Chacon said. Chacon pointed to other blood stains which turned the grass a dark green color. Medical gloves and a badge with the last name Roper were also left behind on the grass.
"One of the officers was kind of holding the other officer who was injured. He was telling him to calm down. Everything was going to be alright," Chacon said. In seconds, he said police officers surrounded the neighborhood.
"The officer seemed kind of shocked so that was pretty shocking for me too because I've never seen anything up close like this," Chacon said.
