ABC 12 is reporting that police have arrested the man they believe shot and killed Detective Benjamin Marconi Sunday morning.

A SWAT team pulled over a vehicle on Interstate 10 East near Ackerman Road around 4:20 p.m. and made the arrest. A female and child also were inside the vehicle, the source said.

The suspect was arrested without incident and was being questioned by police, as of 4:30 p.m. Monday.

Sources confirmed the suspect was arrested in East Bexar County, near Interstate 10 and FM 1516.

Marconi, 50, was writing a ticket in his patrol unit when the suspect walked up to his car and shot him twice in the head, investigators said. He was taken to San Antonio Military Medical Center, where he died.

Marconi was a 20-year veteran of the department and a father of two from Floresville.

Since the shooting, police have been on alert and given the option of working in pairs. There was a $25,000 reward offered for information in connection with Marconi’s death.

Marconi, 50, was shot and killed Sunday around 11:45 a.m. Sunday during a traffic stop near SAPD headquarters in downtown. Marconi was issuing a traffic citation when a black vehicle pulled up behind his patrol car, police said.

The suspect in the black vehicle walked up to Marconi’s car and fired two shots through the passenger window, hitting the detective in the head, police said.

SAPD Chief William McManus said “I think the uniform was the target.”
