Salt Lake Community College and Utah Valley University are seeking input as they prepare to offer degrees in homeland security. The two schools are holding a workshop March 17 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Culinary Institute on SLCC’s Miller campus, 9750 S. 300 West in Sandy. The purpose of the workshop is to get ideas from business, media, law enforcement, and the general public about how to shape the upcoming programs. Attendance gives people the chance to discuss training needs and expectations to create the best education possible, said SLCC homeland security faculty member Joe Anderson.
Media are invited to attend to cover the workshop, and to provide input into the intersection of homeland security and news. The future education and training programs will be the first in the state and region to be offered in homeland security. The College plans to offer a two-year associate’s degree, while UVU is creating bachelor’s and master’s degrees. Students can transition from the associate’s to the bachelor’s program. National leaders in homeland security will attend to help guide the discussion.
Breakfast, lunch and snacks are provided. Free parking is available. Please RSVP by March 10.
