Waxahachie (TX) police arrested an armed man Saturday night after a hostage situation in the emergency room at Baylor, Scott and White Medical Center.
No one was hurt and the hospital was resuming normal operations, according to the Waxahachie Police Department. The ER was evacuated during the standoff.
The suspect has been identified as Lorenzo Zarate, a 32-year-old from Austin, according to KXAS-TV (NBC5). He was booked into the Ellis County Jail on one count of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, one count of making a terroristic threat and one count of attempting to take a weapon from an officer.
Zarate initially held a baby hostage inside the hospital, allegedly pointing a gun to the girl’s head before letting her go, according to witnesses and media reports.
