Pasadena, California: A Pasadena Police Department officer was injured Monday evening after officers responded to a 911 call about a shooting near the Sierra Madre train station and encountered a suspect who fled on foot, police said. During the pursuit, officers and the suspect exchanged gunfire, leaving the officer injured and the suspect dead at the scene, according to the Pasadena Police Department.
Pasadena police said officers were dispatched at about 7:30 p.m. on March 2, 2026, to the area of the Sierra Madre train station after a 911 call reporting a shooting. When officers arrived, they located an adult victim suffering from a gunshot wound and immediately began providing medical aid, the department said.
As officers were assessing the scene, additional responding personnel observed a person believed to be the suspect, police said. A foot pursuit followed. During that pursuit, gunfire was exchanged between officers and the suspect, and a Pasadena police officer sustained an injury, the department said.
Pasadena police identified the injured officer as Officer Bryan Vasquez, a five-year veteran of the Pasadena Police Department.
The department said Vasquez was listed in stable but guarded condition.
Police Chief Gene Harris said the officer had come out of critical surgery and praised the medical response, adding that the department and broader public safety community were supporting the officer’s loved ones.
Pasadena police said the suspect was pronounced dead at the scene. Police also said the original gunshot victim found near the station was transported to a local hospital for treatment, along with the injured officer.
