TOLEDO, Ohio — Last year an Ohio man was found dead in his home from multiple stab wounds. His dog named “Baby Girl” was also near death due to severe stabs wounds. A police detective ultimately stepped in and adopted the canine once she received treatment and survived the vicious attack.
After her owner was murdered in October 2020, Baby Girl was rushed to MedVet Toledo where their staff immediately began medical treatment for her stab wounds. Fortunately, her life was saved, according to a Facebook post from the Toledo Police Department.
Detective Mooney was assigned as the lead investigator on Anthony Banks’ murder case. Throughout her investigation, Mooney would check in on Baby Girl and the progress she was making. Several weeks after the homicide, Mooney found probable cause to obtain a murder warrant and an arrest was made in Banks’ killing as well as the stabbing of Baby Girl, according to the department.
Thanks to the Lucas County Pit Crew and their generous supporters, Baby Girl received the life saving treatment she needed and she went into a foster home to continue healing.
Months later, “Baby Girl has fully recovered from being stabbed and joined her new forever family: Det. Mooney, Det. Mooney’s husband, and a big fur sister named Kali,” the department announced. “Welcome home Baby Girl!”
