Memphis, Tennessee: A statewide Blue Alert is active as authorities search for a suspect accused of shooting a Memphis police officer Thursday night in the Parkway Village area.
The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation said the alert was issued around midnight Friday and identifies 40-year-old Danell Maxwell as the suspect. TBI said Maxwell is wanted for attempted first-degree murder in connection with the Memphis police officer shooting.
According to TBI, the officer was shot around 8:15 p.m. Thursday in Memphis’ Parkway Village neighborhood. The agency has not released the officer’s name.
Details about what led up to the shooting have not been publicly confirmed.
Maxwell is described as 5 feet 10 inches tall and approximately 180 pounds. Officials said he was last seen wearing dark clothing and an orange-and-green reflective vest, and his last known direction of travel was unknown.
Maxwell was armed with a silver handgun and should be considered armed and dangerous.
