AMITY, N.Y. — Authorities say an 84-year-old man has died after he drove his car into the path of a marked state police cruiser on a western New York road.
State police say Kenneth Johnson of Belmont was driving south on Route 19 late Monday afternoon when he made a left hand turn onto a road and struck a trooper's sport utility vehicle in the Allegany County town of Amity.
Troopers say Johnson's vehicle then struck a third vehicle that was stopped at a stop sign at the intersection.
Johnson died of his injuries at Jones Memorial Hospital in Wellsville. His 14-year-old great-grandson was transported to a Buffalo hospital. His condition wasn't available.
Police say the trooper and the driver of the third vehicle weren't injured.
Troopers say the crash remains under investigation.
