Los Angeles Police Department officers were involved in three separate life-threatening incidents in the last 24 hours.
Senior officials spoke to the media Thursday to detail the incidents and highlight the dangers officers face on a regular basis.
In one incident in Leimert Park, a suspect shot one man and then fired at LAPD officers who responded to the scene. They braved the gunfire to pull the victim to safety.
The window of a police cruiser was shot out, but no officers were injured.
An hours-long standoff ensued after the suspect holed up in a garage. Officers finally were able to use tear gas and flash bang to take the suspect into custody.
ABC7 reports that the suspect was later identified as Amir Ahmad. Police say he used an AK 47-style assault weapon to fire at the officers.
About two hours before that incident started, the LAPD says another officer in the Skid Row area was attacked by a woman threatening people with a knife.
She eventually dropped the knife but attacked the officer who holstered her weapon and engaged in a physical altercation until help arrived.
And finally, police say an off-duty officer saved the life of a woman in Ventura who was being viciously attacked by a pit bull Wednesday evening which then attacked the police officer.
