Just as the University of Kentucky Police Department begins to recover from the frenzy of the Final Four celebrations, they get to celebrate a victory of their own. Galls, a Kentucky-based Aramark Company LLC, is pleased to announce that the University of Kentucky Police Department won the NAUMD (North-American Association of Uniform Manufacturers & Distributors) 2011 Public Safety Uniform of the Year Award. The uniform was submitted by Galls and manufactured by 5.11 Tactical®. The annual award is selected from an independent panel of judges on a variety of different factors, such as: innovation and professional design, excellence and attractiveness, fabric enhancements, and identifiable accessories that fit the departmental requirements.

“The University of Kentucky police love our Patrol Duty Uniforms™ (PDUs); they have saved us a lot of money as well as give us a clean, professional appearance,” said Joe Monroe, Chief of Police for the University of Kentucky. “The quality is obvious because they hold up better than all of our other uniforms, even with all the wash, work, and wear that we put them through.”

Galls submitted the uniform to NAUMD and was thrilled with the top award in the University Police Department category.

“We take great pride and care in providing the highest quality products to the public safety and emergency personnel who rely on us for their professional needs,” said Galls president Larry Dismukes. “We are honored that the NAUMD recognizes our commitment to support the men and women who serve in demanding jobs that protect us all.”

5.11’s new Patrol Duty Uniform™ blends functional innovation with the neat, clean, professional appearance that is essential to command staff and the public. Made of durable 65/35 poly-cotton ripstop or twill, the fabric is treated with Teflon® fabric protector for stain and soil resistance. The comfortable, breathable material has superior long-term fade resistance. And for added convenience, the tough, economical wash-and-wear fabric comes out of the dryer ready to wear – saving hundreds of dry cleaning dollars per year. This fall, 5.11 Tactical will also be releasing the PDU’s in its popular Taclite® material, which is a lightweight but durable ripstop fabric.

“Many organizations and departments require the look of a formal uniform, but need the function of a tactical uniform to able to maximize on-the-job performance,” said Dan Costa, Chief Executive Officer of 5.11 Tactical. “That is why we created the PDU®, with feedback from real police officers, and the University of Kentucky is the latest department to embrace it.”
