Sarasota County, Florida: Florida linked shootings on opposite sides of the state left seven people dead, including the suspected shooter, after investigators connected a Fort Lauderdale double homicide to a mass killing in a Sarasota County gated community. Florida linked shootings investigators say the two scenes are tied by relationships, surveillance evidence, and a developing timeline of the suspect’s movements.

According to Fort Lauderdale police, officers went to a home in the Victoria Park neighborhood for a well being check and found two people dead inside. Hours later, Sarasota County deputies responded to a 911 call in the Amberlea neighborhood and located a wounded man outside a home who later died, then discovered additional victims inside the residence, along with the suspected shooter dead at the scene.

What investigators say links the two Florida linked shootings

Investigators have said the suspect had a romantic relationship with one of the Fort Lauderdale victims, and that victim had connections to the Sarasota victims. Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office detectives have been cautious about releasing details, emphasizing that key facts, including motive, remain under investigation.

Authorities also cited surveillance and time sequencing as critical to connecting the cases. Investigators said Fort Lauderdale detectives helped establish the link and that video evidence showed the suspect’s vehicle entering the Sarasota neighborhood, with gunshots heard shortly afterward.

Police in Fort Lauderdale reported the initial scene was discovered during a well-being check at a residence in the Victoria Park area. The Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office later responded to a call in the Amberlea gated community, where deputies found one victim outside, with neighbors providing aid before deputies secured the scene and made entry.

Inside the Sarasota home, deputies located additional deceased victims, and authorities reported the suspected shooter was also found dead. Investigators have described the Sarasota location as part of a connected, same day sequence, with the Fort Lauderdale scene treated as the first crime scene identified.

The Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office has publicly identified the deceased at the Sarasota scene, including the suspected shooter. Those names have been released through local reporting based on information from the sheriff’s office.

Investigators have not publicly released a detailed account of what occurred inside the Sarasota residence beyond confirming the deaths and describing the event as isolated with no ongoing threat to the community.

No ongoing threat, but major questions remain

Officials have said there is no further danger to the public, but the core questions that typically drive accountability and public understanding remain unanswered. Authorities have not publicly confirmed a motive, what specifically triggered the violence, or whether additional evidence will be released in the coming days.

A GoFundMe has been set up here to help the families affected by this tragedy.
