ATLANTA — Police say a man is in jail charged with making terroristic threats after he claimed to have an explosive device in a grocery store parking lot in midtown Atlanta.
Police say busy Peachtree Street in Atlanta's midtown was closed to traffic for about two hours Thursday night while officers investigated.
Atlanta police spokeswoman officer Kim Jones says that after searching the man's vehicle, police determined that there were no explosives.
Jones says the man, identified as 45-year-old Alan Michael Culpepper of Kennesaw, was arrested without incident.
Fulton County sheriff's office spokeswoman Tracy Flanagan said she did not know if Culpepper had a lawyer. There was no telephone listed in his name.
