Last Sunday, Tulsa (OK) Police received numerous calls of an unknown black male screaming in the street in Downtown while removing his clothes. Officers attempted to make contact with the suspect but he fled their attempts.  According to an official statement by the Tulsa Police Department, “The officers slowly followed in their patrol units hoping the individual would tire out and give up.  The individual ran to the Arvest Bank at 502 S. Main, and attempted to get into the very large glass doors. Officers approached the individual and attempt to take him into custody, not allowing him any access to the bank.  As the officers got closer to the individual he pulled so hard on the glass doors, he pulled the door handle out of the door.  This caused the giant, very heavy, glass to rain down large chunks of glass onto the top of the individual’s head.”

“Officers noticed the individual was instantly covered in his own blood from the shattered door.  He attempted to run inside the bank and the officers gave chase, tasing him as he ran inside. Two officers deployed their Tasers with additional officers there to assist. The Taser knocked the individual down but he quickly got back up.  He was tased again and went down again the officers attempted to get him into custody but his strength was matching the strength of the 4 officers.

The officers quickly requested EMSA.  Up until the time EMSA arrived the individual was still speaking with the officers. EMSA loaded the individual into the truck and he was transported to the hospital. On Monday August 27th Tulsa Police were notified that the individual had passed away. The individual was identified as Joshua Wayne Harvey with a date of birth of August 29th, 1992.

In an effort to collaborate and show transparency, Tulsa Police Chief Chuck Jordan has elected to show video and audio in reference to the arrest of Joshua Harvey. We are currently waiting on the Medical Examiner’s report and will release more information when it becomes available.”
