A 25-year veteran of the Wichita (KS) Police Department is out of surgery after being run over by a suspect Tuesday afternoon.
Deputy Chief Jose Salcido told reporters the officer had just come out of surgery when a 4 p.m. briefing began. The unnamed officer is described in “critical but stable condition.”

Salcido added the man suspected of hitting the officer fled into a business on East Pawnee. He said a police K-9 and people inside the business helped bring the suspect into custody.
The name of the suspect has not been released.
The patrol officer reportedly has several skull fractures.
