A Tulsa (OK) police officer shot and killed a naked man who pointed a gun at him Monday afternoon.
The fatal shooting occurred while police were responding to a report of a disturbance with a weapon in the 1100 block of South Wheeling Avenue about 3:45 p.m..
Officers were called to the location after neighbors called saying a naked man was pointing a weapon at them.
The responding officer arrived and located the naked man as he ran out of a house.
The suspect pointed the weapon at the officer who gave him repeated commands to drop the gun, according to witnesses at the scene.
The officer, who has not yet been identified, shot several times at the suspect, who collapsed in the street.
He was later pronounced dead at a local hospital.
Tulsa has seen a surge in violence and homicides in recent years. Last year the city had 81 homicides, a new record, and this year that record has been tied.
Tulsa was recently listed as the 12th most violent city in America, just behind Chicago.
The ACLU and NAACP recently requested racial demographics on suspects arrested and stopped in the city by law enforcement. In the inquiry, that was reported by the Tulsa World, they never mention the violence in the city or requested the racial demographics for who is being victimized.
