Protect Your Mobile Workforce from the Dangers of In-vehicle Computing

WARMINSTER, Pa. — Advances in mobile technology has lead to an increase in jobs involving in-vehicle computing. However, when improperly mounted inside the vehicle, these new technologies can quickly become dangerous projectiles during a crash. To prevent this situation, laptops, tablets and other mobile devices should be securely mounted in a well-tested, rugged system.

In October of 2007, a sheriff in Maricopa County, Ariz., learned firsthand the benefit of having a well-constructed mounting system during an accident. While responding to a call during a rain storm, the deputy’s SUV began to hydroplane. It struck the side of the mountain and flipped, coming to a rest on its roof. The mounted Panasonic CF-29 remained securely locked in place and functional due to the Havis mounting and docking system, and allowed the first responder to see where the unconscious officer was heading. The Havis solution was redeployed in a new vehicle within days.

Havis Inc. is an industry-leading manufacturer of in-vehicle mobile office solutions, including docking stations for Panasonic, Dell and General Dynamics – Itronix. Havis also offers the Universal Laptop Mount to secure any brand of laptop without sacrificing safety and durability.

The company works closely with computer manufacturers to design the safest solutions to meet customers’ mobile computing needs. The latest docking station from Havis is only Toughbook Certified solution for the semi-rugged Panasonic Toughbook 53. This new docking station, along with those before it, complies with and exceeds the toughest safety standards for rugged mobile computing. Havis docking stations are built to withstand 30 mph crash testing, extreme durability testing and ergonomic simulation.

In addition to keeping mobile workers safe, Havis designs comfortable solutions that provide access to office amenities. The docking station for the Toughbook 53 integrates intelligent port replication so users can safely connect to peripherals, such as printers, keyboards and bar scanners, while minimizing the risk of accidental disconnects. An integrated power supply cord is routed along the bottom of the docking station to prevent loss of power.

To provide users with more reliable WWAN and Wi-Fi connectivity inside their vehicle, Havis offers two models of the docking station with Dual Pass-Thru Antenna. This increased connectivity and access to peripherals enhance mobile worker productivity and job satisfaction.

This new docking station joins a long line of intuitive solutions from Havis that keep computing equipment safely docked, even during a crash. Whether using mobile computing every day, or simply when away from a fixed location, Havis offers peace of mind and a smooth transition from office to vehicle.
