The Citizen Potawatomi Nation Police Department is mourning the death of one of its own this weekend.
Office Russell Ross collapsed during a court hearing Thursday and was later pronounced dead, officials said. He was 34.
He started with the Citizen Potawatomi Nation Police Department in 2013. He served in the Marines before becoming a police officer.
“The whole law enforcement community is grieving. We lost a good friend, a great police officer and a fine, fine gentleman,” Police Chief Jim Collard said.
The Citizen Potawatomi Nation Tribal Police Department is responsible for protecting and patroling the 900 square mile area that is within the Citizen Potawatomi Nation jurisdictional boundary. They are located in Pottawatomie County, Oklahoma.
