Four Hillsborough (NC) police officers are planting the seeds of hope in their community by pulling off quite a surprise for several youngsters.
Hillsborough police were called to a report of breaking and entering earlier this week.
But as Danotric Nash of the Hillsborough Police Department said, “We do more than just answer calls on a daily basis.”
When they arrived on the scene, officers struck up a conversation with several boys.
“They started talking about bicycles, and saying ‘my bicycle was stolen,’” Nash said.
The officers listened patiently before continuing on their way, answering calls throughout the community.
Little did the boys know a big surprise was on the way. The officers returned with four new bikes and helmets, all paid for out of their own pockets.
“Seeing their reactions was priceless,” said officer John Kempf. “These kids, we see them on a daily basis… and when you see a need that needs to be filled – that’s our job. If we’re called to do that, that’s what we’ll do.”
The officers hope this special delivery carries much more than bikes, that it carries hope for a better future.
