The National Tactical Officers' Association has announced that it fully supports the Below 100 initiative (www.Below100.com) and will work with Below 100 trainers to achieve the initiative's goal: a reduction in line of duty deaths to fewer than 100 in a calendar year, a level not seen since 1944.
According to NTOA Executive Director Mark Lomax, partnering with Below 100 makes sense for NTOA because the organization is absolutely committed to improving officer safety. "In work this dangerous, safety is not just a priority, it's the priority," Lomax says. "Officer safety has long been a number one priority of NTOA, so we are proud to support the Below 100 initiative and we will be sponsoring several training presentations."
Below 100 improves officer safety and awareness by targeting the areas of risk that are directly under an officer's control. Lomax underscores the need for this approach and the added hurt of dealing with LODDs that were absolutely preventable. "It's tragic enough when an officer falls at the hands of a criminal," Lomax says. "It's even tougher to comprehend when an officer dies needlessly on the job because of a car accident or training exercise gone bad."
With more than 35,000 members representing every state in the country, NTOA has long been the premier tactical organization. It's well known for its quality training, publication and conference.
