MADISON COUNTY, Miss. — A Mississippi Highway Patrol trooper was killed Friday when he was hit by a truck while conducting a traffic stop on Highway 16 in Madison County. The Mississippi Department of Public Safety identified the trooper as John Harris. Colonel Randy Ginn said that “the Mississippi Highway Patrol mourns the loss of Trooper John Harris…Trooper Harris was a passionate, dedicated public servant and an important member of the MHP family. Our thoughts and prayers go out to his family at this difficult time.”
There have not been specific details released on the incident but a semi-truck was involved. The driver of that truck was not injured according to WLBT-TV.
“We are deeply saddened by the tragic loss of Trooper John Harris (Z-21),” said Commissioner Sean Tindell.
The incident remains under investigation and there has been no other information released at this time.
