The Fort Worth French Fries shooting is a heartbreaking reminder of how fast everyday conflict can turn deadly. A Fort Worth mother is mourning her son, Jarvis Davis, after police say he was shot in the head during what she described as a “senseless” argument over sharing french fries.
According to Fort Worth police and FOX 4 reporting, the shooting happened after a group returned to an apartment complex on Jeremiah Drive following a trip to Wingstop. Investigators say an argument broke out inside the vehicle or near the apartment complex, and when Davis refused to share his fries, an 18-year-old pulled a handgun and fired.
Davis was taken to the hospital, where he later died.
Police identified the suspect as Lemarques Darden Jr., 18, who was arrested in Tyler, Texas, nearly two weeks after the incident, authorities said. FOX 4 reported that multiple people witnessed the shooting, including children, and those witness accounts helped investigators track Darden down.
Davis’ mother, Sherika Kennedy, told FOX 4 she is struggling to process how quickly a friendship turned into violence. She said her son and the suspect were friends and neighbors, making the loss even more difficult to accept.
Darden is being held in the Tarrant County Jail.
