The Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies (CALEA) published a revision to its Public Safety Communications Accreditation Program s manual, Standards for Public Safety Communications Agencies. This second edition contains several new standards, bringing the total to 214 standards organized into seven chapters or topic areas, including organization; direction and supervision; human resources; recruitment, selection and promotion; training; operations; and critical incidents, special operations and homeland security.
CALEA s Public Safety Communications Accreditation, which has been operational since 1999, is a voluntary credentialing program for public safety communications. Currently more than 75 agencies are enrolled in the accreditation program, 47 of which have been awarded accreditation.
