SALT LAKE CITY, Utah — A Utah bride was killed by a wrong-way driver just hours after she married her high school sweetheart, according to family members.
The traffic fatality occurred Friday shortly after 1 a.m. on I-15 near Salt Lake City, the Utah Highway Patrol said in a press statement. A Toyota pickup truck traveling south in the northbound lanes struck the 26-year-old woman’s Toyota Corolla head-on.
As a result of the horrific crash, the woman suffered fatal injuries, UHP said. A female passenger, 20, was rushed to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, Fox News reported.
Angelica Gabrielle Dhondup was identified by family members as the woman killed in the collision. They said Dhondup had just married her high school sweetheart and was on her way home from the wedding reception at the time of the fatality.

According to a GoFundMe page, Dhondup leaves behind two sons and a daughter she was on the verge of adopting.
Following the crash, UHP said a passerby stopped to help the driver and passenger of the Toyota pickup, which came to rest upside down. However, the driver stole the Good Samaritan’s pickup. Fortunately, the suspect was quickly apprehended by troopers. The passenger reportedly fled on foot, but later returned to the scene.
The suspect who was driving the truck was not identified. Impairment was being investigated as a cause of the collision, according to the highway patrol.
