Atlanta police confirmed an officer was shot near an apartment complex in Buckhead this afternoon.
Police say the officer is alert, conscious and breathing. The officer was protected from serious injury by his vest.
WSBTV reports that there were two people suspected of attempting to break into a woman’s apartment at the Allure at Brookwood apartment complex.
Police say the woman called 911 before the men kicked in her door and police responded.
Details are not clear at this time but after the officer was shot, one of the suspects was shot in the shoulder, and the other ran into a wooded area behind the apartment complex.
Witnesses say around 30 officers swarmed the area looking for the second suspect, and found him in about 10 minutes.
The suspects are in police custody.
