Saturday night a St. Louis police officer was accidentally shot in the leg during a traffic stop in north St. Louis.
FOX 2 was told that officers were on patrol in the area for calls about drag racing and speeding. The officers were following two suspects in the vehicle, when they pulled the car over for a traffic stop. When a door on the suspects vehicle was opened, it hit an officer service weapon causing it to discharge, shooting the officer in the leg.
The officer was transported to the hospital for treatment. The officer, a 10-year veteran, is listed in stable condition.
No information has been released on the suspects it vehicle pulled over by the officers.
