BRUTUS, N.Y. — New York State Police reported a “serious injury rollover crash” involving a tour bus with 57 people aboard who were sent to the hospital Saturday evening, according to a report.
Images of the rollover collision show debris scattered on the shoulder of the roadway on Interstate 90 in Brutus, N.Y., which is about 250 miles northwest of New York City – in between Buffalo and Syracuse, Fox News reported.
The crash caused traffic to back up on the interstate for eight miles for at least an hour. State police confirmed that 57 people, including the driver, were hospitalized with injuries ranging from serious to minor.
Law enforcement authorities said the lanes of travel reopened about 6:30 p.m.
Spokesperson Matthew Chadderdon at Auburn Community Hospital told the Associated Press the bus was headed to Niagara Falls and the passengers included children.
Auburn received 27 victims, three of whom were transferred to the trauma center at Upstate University Hospital in Syracuse.
A spokesperson for Upstate said it had received 25 patients altogether.
The cause of the dramatic crash remains under investigation. No further details were immediately available.
