Leland (NC) Police Chief Mike James says a police officer and a suspect were shot Friday night.
It happened in Leland on Bridgeport Way in Windsor Park.
The district attorney says the call for a suspicious person came in just before 9 p.m. Shots were exchanged. The suspect was killed.
The officer was rushed to the hospital for surgery with gunshots to his legs. DA Jon David says the officer’s bullet-proof vest helped protect him.
The names of the officer and suspect have not yet been released.
