The Michigan State Police pitted 2017 sedans and SUVs sold for police work by General Motors, Ford Motor and Fiat Chrysler against each other to see which is quickest, both in acceleration and stopping power, and the overall fastest.
The quickest accelerating cop car is the police version of the Ford Taurus with a 3.5-liter turbocharged V-6 engine, the testing revealed.

The car with the highest top speed, however, is the Chevrolet Caprice with a 6-liter V-8.
The Taurus sedan, branded by Ford as the Police Interceptor when bought for patrol work, goes from zero to 60 miles per hour in 5.7 seconds, the tests show. By contrast, the quickest police version of the Caprice took 6.11 seconds to reach the same speed. And the Dodge Charger with a 5.7-liter engine reaches 60 mph in 6.05 seconds.
The Charger won when it came to stopping distance, with the ability to brake from 60 mph to a complete stop in 123.2 feet.
The Caprice is the winner, topping out at 155 mph, followed by the Charger and Taurus at 150 mph.
Ford is the biggest seller of police vehicles with about 60% of the market.
