Jacksonville, Florida: A prominent Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office Motor Unit officer has been arrested after Sheriff T.K. Waters said the officer claimed more than 200 hours of overtime for traffic enforcement shifts he never worked, collecting more than $14,000 in pay he was not entitled to.
The officer, Christian Madsen, was taken into custody after an investigation into his overtime submissions, according to Waters’ public remarks at a Thursday news conference.
Sheriff Waters said Madsen submitted overtime claims tied to traffic enforcement work and that the investigation concluded the hours were falsified. The alleged misconduct involves more than 200 hours of overtime over several months and totals more than $14,000, Waters said.
Waters also confirmed that, during at least some of the time Madsen was claiming to be working overtime, he was actually at his supervisor’s home and the two were involved in a romantic relationship.
Authorities have not released additional verified details in the publicly available reporting about how each charge is supported beyond the overtime allegations themselves.
Action News Jax also reported that Waters said Eason resigned her appointment as chief and is now the subject of an internal investigation.
Action News Jax reported that Madsen earned more than $100,000 in overtime pay since 2020.
