The IACP s 116th conference featured hundreds of vendors, thousands of attendees, dozens of classes and myriad networking opportunities. As the conference closed, attendees departed with a lot of valuable information – and a lot to think about.
The IACP conference gives attendees four unique opportunities: First is the content of the classes. Topics are wide-ranging and the experts come from all over the country to speak here, says Editor-in-Chief Dale Stockton. Second is the vendor participation. You can interact with all the big vendors and almost all of them take this as an opportunity to unveil new products. Third, are the committee meetings that address the IACP s positions on important issues. And finally, this is truly an international conference. We saw participation from all over the world from Malaysia, Africa, Australia all with unique perspectives on law enforcement. This is a conference well worth any officer s time.
Many exciting new products were announced at this year s conference:
- Panasonic unveiled the Toughbook Arbitrator 360, an in-car video system that can support up to six cameras in a patrol vehicle and provide full 360-degree coverage.
- Taser allowed conferees to try out their new X3, a three-shot Taser with a laser sight and enhanced features over previous models.
- 5.11 Tactical announced a new Teflon-coated duty uniform that promises to keep an officer looking clean and squared away, despite the rough and tumble world of policing.
- There were several new police vehicles unveiled. Carbon Motors displayed its clean diesel E7, which the company indicates will be delivered to departments during the coming year.
- Another big announcement: The new Australian-built, 355-hp Chevrolet Caprice will be available to agencies in 2011. (The November Law Officer Cruiser Corner column will have special coverage on this all-new offering.) And Oshkosh Defense unveiled its impressive new Tactical Protector Vehicle for police.
