Newly released video shows the moment a robbery suspect shot a South Carolina police officer at point-blank range and now we know how that footage was obtained.

Officer Quincy Smith purchased a pair of ‘camera glasses’ on Amazon for $30.

That purchase helped convict Malcolm Orr of attempted murder and he was sentenced to the maximum penalty of 35 years in prison.  During his testimony, he said that the glasses were the best $30 he ever spent.

The video, shown to the jury, played a huge factor in not only the conviction but a deliberation of just 45 minutes.

Officer Smith remains on medical leave and hopes to return to work in early 2018.  Now,  all the department’s 15 officers are now required to wear body cameras.
