A DFL candidate for the Minnesota House faced widespread criticism online last week when he asked if President Joe Biden could order a “drone strike” on his political rival.

“So is there any reason Biden couldn’t just drone strike Trump and end this,” Will Stancil posted on X.

Hours later, Stancil posted that the social media platform has become “an organizing hub for far-right terror.”

Stancil’s original post came in response to the Supreme Court decision Trump v. United States, which grants a president substantial immunity for official acts committed while in office.

Stancil responded to critics by claiming that his post was just hypothetical. “The first one was a hypothetical question about the Supreme Court saying the president can commit crimes with impunity, and then the second one was a reaction to Twitter Nazis saying, very non-hypothetically, ‘Ha, now we can murder you with impunity.’”

Popular talk show host Jack Posobiec responded to Stancil’s post by saying, “You have less than six months, Will Stancil.”

Stancil fired back, calling Posobiec a “fascist goon” and saying that he was “openly threatening to kill liberal politicians.” Some responded to the exchange by noting that they believe Posobiec was referring to the end of the presidential term in 2025.

Stancil is running against Katie Jones and Isabel Rolfes in the Democratic primary for House District 61A, which is being vacated with the retirement of longtime DFL Rep. Frank Hornstein. Stancil is an attorney and calls himself an advocate for “civil rights, fair housing, and strong public schools.”

“Right-wing extremism, fractured politics, and the slow creep of concentrated poverty have endangered the thriving Minneapolis communities and institutions I love,” Stancil says on his campaign website. “I’ve been disturbed to see climate change accelerating while core rights like abortion and voting get stripped away by federal courts.”

He explains on his website that he’s interested in working with every person, as long as they have “core values like tolerance and honesty.” Stancil believes that “basic American democratic values are under threat.”
