The California Highway Patrol office in San Andreas said a Modoc County Sheriff’s deputy was killed today in the line of duty.
In a news release, the Sheriff’s Office said a deputy was involved in an active shooter incident around 10:30 a.m., but did not reveal any information about injuries.

The shooting happened at County Road 115 and 170 in a rural area about five miles outside of Alturas. The Shasta County Sheriff’s Office shooting team and the CHP Multidisciplinary Accident Investigation Team are both on the way to investigate the incident.
The suspect is in custody.
The Modoc County Sheriff’s Office is planning a news conference Wednesday afternoon to release more information.
