SPALDING COUNTY, Ga. — A drug kingpin and 33 co-conspirators were indicted in Spalding County (Ga.) after a yearlong multijurisdictional investigation that netted drugs, guns, money and cars, prosecutors said Thursday.
Griffin Circuit District Attorney Scott Ballard said Craig Woods, 41, of McDonough was the mastermind behind a massive drug organization that may have been operating in Spalding County for eight or nine years.
Drug agents described Woods as "having no gainful employment but working every day in Griffin" on his drug trade. Agents from Griffin Police Department worked with Spalding Sheriff's Office, the federal Drug Enforcement Administration and Metro Atlanta High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area Task Force in identifying the "massive criminal operation that has supplied illegal narcotics to the Griffin area for years," Ballard said.
All 34 were indicted this week on various drug charges and all but four had been arrested by Thursday afternoon."In this circuit, if they are convicted, they face serious prison time," Ballard said.
According to Georgia Department of Corrections, Woods has served six prison terms from 1990 to 2003 on drug, firearms and theft convictions.
