One police officer was attacked and “a few” arrests were made when fights broke out Thursday night on downtown streets between protesters and Donald Trump supporters leaving a rally for the presidential candidate in San Jose, California.
Protesters jumped on cars, while others burned red “Make America Great” hats and took selfies with the charred remains. Demonstrators waved Mexican flags as Trump supporters shouted at them to “go back to Mexico.” Videos showed some Trump supporters being sucker-punched and kicked.
The San Jose Police Department made a number of arrests after the Rally and said an officer was assaulted.
Protesters followed Trump supporters to their cars as they left the convention center. Around the corner and away from police protection on San Carlos Street, a mob mentality took over.
For several minutes, there was no police presence and protesters thumped Trump supporters’ cars in the parking garage as they tried to leave.
Violence is not new after Trump events. The below video was taken in San Diego last week as protesters clashed with law enforcement.
