The suspect in Monday’s attack at Ohio State University has been identified as Abdul Razak Ali Artan, according to NBC News.
Artan, who was shot and killed by police at the scene, was a legal permanent resident of the United States and of Somali descent. He lived in Pakistan with his family before coming to the U.S., according to the report.
Columbus Chief of Police Kim Jacobs said during a conference Monday afternoon that authorities have to consider the possibility that Monday’s incident that injured nine was a terrorist attack.
The suspect reportedly hit pedestrians with a car before using a butcher knife to stab multiple people.
Campus Police responded in one minute.
Artan was a student at OSU, was profiled in an August issue of The Lantern, the university’s student newspaper.
In the profile, called “Humans of Ohio State,” Artan described searching for a place to pray on his first day at OSU after transferring. He goes on to say the media portrays Muslims in a way that makes other people “feel uncomfortable.”
