Montgomery, Alabama: An ALEA special agent shot during an officer-involved incident in west Montgomery was rushed to a hospital Wednesday evening after being struck by gunfire while working an enforcement detail, authorities confirmed.
The Alabama Law Enforcement Agency said the shooting happened at about 5:51 p.m. in the 4000 block of Longleaf Drive near the Montgomery Regional Airport. Officials have not publicly released the agent’s name, condition, or additional details about what led to the gunfire as the investigation remains active.
ALEA confirmed the injured agent is assigned to the agency’s SWAT Team. According to ALEA, the shooting occurred while SWAT members assigned to the Metro Area Crime Suppression Unit were working an enforcement detail in the area.
A large, multi-agency response converged near Longleaf Drive shortly before 6 p.m. WSFA reported seeing at least a dozen units from the Montgomery Police Department, along with Montgomery Fire and Rescue, the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office, and federal partners, including the U.S. Marshals Service and FBI.
The agent was transported to a local hospital for treatment. Beyond that, ALEA and local officials have released limited information and have not confirmed whether anyone else was injured.
As of Thursday, no public information has been released about an arrest, a suspect description, or the circumstances that prompted the gunfire. Those facts remain unconfirmed and should be treated as such until ALEA provides an official timeline.
Gov. Kay Ivey publicly acknowledged the incident, saying the agent was shot while working with the MACS Unit in Montgomery and expressing support for the agent’s recovery.
Montgomery Mayor Steven Reed also released a statement describing the city as praying for the agent, the agent’s family, and fellow officers, while emphasizing ALEA’s lead role in the operation and investigation.
