MINNEAPOLIS — Two people were killed and eight more wounded in a downtown Minneapolis shooting early Saturday, according to reports. Police spokesperson John Elder said the gunfire came from two men who got into an argument in a crowd of people, pulled out guns and started shooting, KMSP-TV reported.
The deadly encounter occurred at 1:59 a.m. Saturday in the 300 block of N 1st Ave near the Monarch nightclub. Police officers were nearby when they heard shots ring out.
“[Officers] observed numerous other people running through the area. It was a very chaotic scene. Officers dealt with a number of people who had been shot and were laying on the ground,” said Elder.
Five men and five women were shot, the police department said in a series of tweets. Two of the men died and another man was hospitalized in critical condition, according to police. The other seven had injuries not considered to be life-threatening, Chicago Tribune reported.
Investigators are in the process of collecting surveillance video in the area. Thus far there have been no arrests made.
