ATLANTA, GEORGIA, March 31, 2011  – Law enforcement agencies are quickly starting to embrace the idea of having compact officer worn video recording systems on their officers.  Reduction in operations budget and the high cost of outfitting a patrol vehicle with video has prompted many departments to use body worn video units as the affordable alternative.  There are some concerns, at the top of the list of is where officers can wear these new crime fighting tools without impeding the officer’s actions.

Secondly, there is the question of affordability. Primal USA, a developer of body wearable evidence gathering appliances, has introduced the IXION SPIDER to address both issues.

The purpose built IXION SPIDER is a ultra small, yet feature rich, body worn video appliance coming in at compact footprint of 3.77 x 2.48 x 0.82 inches. It’ patent pending 180 degree rotatable camera head affords officers a choice of where the unit can be worn, such as the shirt epaulet, traditionally used to carry pagers in the past. This allows a clear and unobstructed view, unlike systems that incorporate cameras in microphones or must be worn in center of the uniform shirt.

The rugged and weather ready IXION SPIDER is a 2-part system featuring an embedded camera, microphone, speaker, DVR and color LCD monitor in one package. A separate key fob size 2.4 gig wireless remote controller / monitor. The innovative IXION Previewer allows officers to activate the unit and record either full motion video or high definition still photos. It is designed to operate in extreme temperature ranges from minus 13 degree to 150 degrees Fahrenheit. Other features includes embedded IR emitters with filter, internal rechargeable battery, USB 2.0 to PC connectivity and a unique 360 degree rotatable mounting clip.

“ The IXION SPIDER is a game changer for agencies holding off from investing in body worn video due to price and questions about where to securely mount and wear on their officers” states Ray Edwards, Business Development Manager for Primal USA. “Agencies can now outfit 50 officers within they agency for the average cost of outfitting 5 patrol vehicle with cameras” adds Edwards. Primal USA offers a 1-year warranty, plus an extended service program to insure the units will have a long life of use within the agency.
