LAFAYETTE, Indiana — Police are searching for a suspect after a Tippecanoe County judge and his wife were shot Sunday afternoon inside their Lafayette home.

Lafayette Police Department officers responded to the 1700 block of Mill Pond Lane around 2:17 p.m. after receiving a report of a shooting. When officers arrived, they found two victims suffering from gunshot wounds and immediately began emergency response efforts while securing the scene for investigators.

The victims were later identified by Indiana Supreme Court Chief Justice Loretta Rush as Tippecanoe Superior Court 2 Judge Steven Meyer and his wife, Kimberly “Kim” Meyer. Police said Judge Meyer sustained an injury to one of his arms, while his wife suffered an injury to her hip. Both were transported to an area hospital and were reported to be in stable condition on Monday.

Investigators recovered shell casings at the residence, and the case quickly drew a significant law enforcement response. Authorities confirmed the investigation remains active and is being assisted by multiple agencies, including the FBI. As of the latest update, no arrests have been announced, and police have not released a suspect description.

Officials have also not provided details on what led up to the shooting or whether the couple was targeted. Police have emphasized that key facts remain unconfirmed as detectives continue interviews, analyze evidence, and work to identify the person responsible.

The shooting remains under investigation.
