GREEN BAY, Wis. – A man has been accused of a brutal murder of an elderly man in Green Bay.
Andres Garcia-Saenz, 22, has been charged with first-degree intentional homicide and burglary with a dangerous weapon, according to records viewed by Law&Crime. He’s been charged in the stabbing death of Douglas Campbell, 73.
Brown County Deputy District Attorney Dana Johnson laid out the dreadful allegations against the defendant.
“The total number of estimated stab wounds at that time were approximately 175,” he said in a probable cause hearing covered by WBAY-TV. “A large number of the wounds were at the back of the head and neck.”
Police said that Garcia-Saenz burglarized the victim’s home. A knife and hammer were at the scene. The defendant reportedly told police that he and Campbell met on a dating app and that he went to his home, but he kept changing his story on how long they had known one another.
Some of Campbell’s things were found in trash outside of the defendant’s apartment, police said in the WBAY report.
Garcia-Saenz appeared in court on Monday for a probable cause hearing.
Against the advisement of his attorney, who was teleconferencing into the hearing, Garcia-Saenz insisted on speaking with the court.
“You’ve had a chance to consult with your attorney, you want to speak even though he’s probably advising you not to say anything?” asked Court Commissioner Paul Burke.
“Yes sir, yes please, sir,” said Garcia-Saenz responded.
“I went there three times, the second time he came over,” said Garcia-Saenz while his attorney tried to interject and talk over him on the phone.
“I request that the mute be put on, all I’ve heard is him say please, that’s it,” said Garcia-Saenz attorney.

Garcia-Saenz told the court he did not kill Campbell.
“Sir, I didn’t kill Doug, I would have never killed Doug. I’m a religious person, your honor,” Garcia-Saenz pleaded to the court, according to WLUK-TV.
Prosecutors say someone had made entry into the home and it looked as if it had been “ransacked.”
Investigators say an autopsy found Campbell had stab wounds all over his body.
The fatal wound was to the back the neck. Prosecutors say Campbell also had blunt force trauma to the back the head, consistent with a hammer.
The Court Commissioner set a $500,000 cash bond for Garcia-Saenz.
