LINCOLN COUNTY, Colo. – The Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office in Colorado has reported that one of its deputies was ambushed and shot “several times” while responding to a call regarding a theft early Thursday morning, KDRO reported.
According to the sheriff’s office Facebook page, the agency dispatched a deputy regarding a “theft in progress” just after 3:00 a.m. Continuing, they wrote, “A deputy arrived a short time later and was ambushed being shot several times. The deputy called for assistance and numerous agencies responded.”
It is unknown whether the unidentified deputy was able to return fire as the suspect eluded capture. The wounded deputy was transported to a metro area hospital, according to the sheriff’s office.
UPDATE: LCSO reports the “suspect has been located. No other threat to community.” However, they did not provide suspect information or an update on the medical condition of the wounded deputy.
