Pflugerville, Texas: An off-duty Austin police officer stopped an active shooter in a barbershop on Saturday. The suspect entered the barbershop on Friday around 6 pm and began shooting.
One person died at the scene, and another was transported to a local hospital.
Officials have not released details about how many shots were fired, what type of firearm was used, or whether anyone else inside the shop was injured. The sheriff’s office has also not publicly released the identity of the wounded employee.
The officer was inside the barbershop when the shooting began and returned fire, fatally striking the suspect.
Austin Police Chief Lisa Davis praised the officer’s actions, saying the officer was “a hero” and likely prevented additional people from being shot.
Authorities have not identified the off-duty officer, and officials have not released information on how long the officer has been with the department.
The Travis County Sheriff’s Office asked anyone with information about the incident to contact the agency’s tip line or Crime Stoppers.
