UK leaders are looking at easing the restrictions on Taser issuance in order to fight terrorism.
Under current rules only officers with more than two years’ experience are allowed to carry the devices.
This is why Pc Wayne Marques had to confront the London Bridge attackers with just a baton because he only had 18 months’ service and may never be able to return to work.
After details of his incident were revealed, top officers are due to meet this week to discuss relaxing the rules.
Currently around one in six – 20,000 – police officers in England and Wales are trained to use Tasers.
