Law Officer is pleased to introduceLaw Officer Connect, a professional and social network for law enforcement and police. You can join interest groups, write a blog, start a discussion topic in the new forums and, of course, invite your police friends and co-workers to join. Members are already starting discussions and posting photos and videos. Recent topics for discussion include training tools and tactics for defensive use of edged weapons and what codes PDs are using when an officer gets a hit on a suspect. Log on now towww.LawOfficerConnect.com and see what nearly 2,000 other officers have already discovered.

And onwww.LawOfficer.com, look for the following stories in May:

UCT Revisited (lawofficer.com/laska): UCT has rebranded its lubrication-free firearms coating process as EXO, with the consumer line of products called FAILZERO. It has started manufacturing drop-in parts for the AR-15 that have slick, low-maintenance coatings, and plans to produce a line of 1911 .45 frames and parts. In this article, Paul Laska reviews the process and performance of the new gun gear.

Money, Cops & Whistle Stops

(lawofficer.com/wasilewski): Illinois is the only state besides Wisconsin that does not allow concealed carry of firearms by its citizens. Oak Park is one of a handful of municipalities in Illinois that does not even allow its residents to own and possess guns in their own homes. Unfortunately for Oak Parkers, criminals often insist on bringing weapons along to their robberies. The need for a decisive, bold response on the part of the Oak Park Police Department leadership was clear, and, according to authors Mike Wasilewski and Althea Olson, the brass did not disappoint. The answer is … whistles!

Online Degrees in Crime Analysis

(lawofficer.com/osborne): When choosing a program, says author Deborah Osborne, study its accreditation to determine legitimacy. Consider the quality of staff, the online environment, the timing and possible funding reimbursement options for you. You need to have the appropriate technology and Internet access to be a successful online learner. Generally, dial-up Internet access is a liability.
