St. Louis – A coordinated enforcement operation by St. Louis police over the weekend targeted an illegal street racing gathering, resulting in dozens of vehicles disabled using spike strips and multiple citations issued.
Officers responded Saturday night to reports of reckless driving and street takeovers in the Manchester Avenue area, where large crowds had gathered to watch stunt driving and dangerous vehicle maneuvers. The event, which appeared to have been organized via social media, caused traffic disruptions and raised safety concerns among residents and local businesses.
In response, police deployed spike strips at key exit points surrounding a parking lot known to host the events. Officials report that approximately 50 vehicles were disabled as drivers attempted to flee when officers moved in.
“Street racing and stunt driving have become a growing threat to public safety,” said Lt. Marcus Hayes of the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department. “Our goal is not just enforcement, but to send a clear message that this behavior will not be tolerated.”
Several individuals were detained for questioning, and at least ten citations were issued for traffic violations and reckless conduct.
No injuries were reported during the operation.
