Courtroom testimony revealed that former University of Cincinnati police officer Ray Tensing (who is white), was wearing a Confederate flag t-shirt underneath his uniform at the time he shot and killed Sam DuBose (who is black), according to a WCPO news report.
DuBose’s sister and mother said the Tensing’s wearing of the Confederate t-shirt convinced them that “Tensing is “evil” to the core.”

DuBose’s sister, Terina Allen, affirmed, “”I already knew Tensing was a murderer, but now I just thought, clearly, something’s wrong with his spirit. That was my reaction. Something was wrong with his spirit.”
The black t-shirt, which appears to be a souvenir from the Great Smoky Mountains, was presented as evidence during former officer Tensing’s murder trial on Friday, November 4.
The evidence—and that Tensing was wearing the shirt under his uniform—prompted criticism from politicians and religious leaders.
