MIAMI BEACH, Fla. — A Georgia man is in custody after “randomly” shooting and killing a tourist who was dining at a restaurant with his family, then dancing over the victim’s body, according to authorities and witnesses at the scene.
Dustin Wakefield, 21, was dining in the outdoor section of La Cerveceria de Barrio on Ocean Drive in Miami Beach when Tamarius David, 22, reportedly opened fire on him Tuesday night, CBS Miami reported.
A witness, who didn’t want to be identified, told the news outlet, “After the shooting, he was dancing on top of the guy.”

According to the Miami Herald, Wakefield was on vacation from Colorado. During the encounter, he tried to protect his 1-year-old son before getting shot multiple times, his family said.
“This guy came in with a gun waving it, saying ‘It’s time to die.’ He pointed the gun at his son and Dustin said, ‘He’s only a boy,’” his uncle, Mike Wakefield, told the news organization.
“Dustin stood up between the gunman and the baby and he shot him. He shot him multiple times on the ground.”

Moreover, the gunfire struck another diner. The unidentified second victim sustained non-life-threatening injuries, police said.
Officers summoned to the scene by 911 calls found David trying to open a locked door while holding a firearm, CBS Miami reported.
Footage showed the shooting suspect in an alleyway next to the scene, howling, “I did it. I did it,” the Miami Herald reported.
David dropped the weapon when ordered to do so by officers as they took him into custody.
David — who is referred to as David Tamarius Blair Jr. in some reports — reportedly confessed to “randomly” shooting the two patrons, New York Post reported. According to police, the man from Norcross, Georgia said he “was high on mushrooms, which made him feel empowered.”

Consequently, David faces charges of second-degree murder and attempted murder. He is being held without bond Wednesday at the Miami-Dade County Jail.
